Dark Fudge Frosting

Rich and gooey fudge frosting is amazing! Slather this on our maximum chocolate cake. Serve with chocolate chocolate chunk ice cream for good measure.

Ingredients

Maximum Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Fudge Frosting

  • 1/2 C butter
  • 1/4 C shortening
  • 1/3 C unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 C powdered sugar
  • 2 T heavy cream
  • 1 C hot fudge topping
  • 1 t vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Cream together the butter or margarine with the shortening.
  2. Sift the cocoa with the powdered sugar and add to the creamed mixture. Mix together adding 1 tablespoon at a time of milk to keep mixture smooth. Don’t add more than 1/4 cup of milk.
  3. Add the hot fudge topping and the vanilla extract. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  4. Frost cake as usual. If desired, split each layer in half for a 4-layer cake.
